Cobalt oxide

keyword:Experimental rotary kiln

Description

Cobalt oxide (chemical formula: CoO) is a dense black-gray hexagonal crystalline powder with a relative density of 6.45 g/cm³. It dissolves in inorganic acids (e.g., hydrochloric, sulfuric acid) but is insoluble in water, ethanol, or ammonia; at 300–500°C, it is easily reduced by CO to high-purity metallic cobalt.

As a key transition metal oxide, it is widely used as a core raw material for hard alloys (WC-Co), super heat-resistant/corrosion-resistant/magnetic alloys, and insulating materials. It also serves as a high-activity catalyst for organic reactions and a stable pigment/dye in the chemical industry.
